Last month, I posted about cheating on Stitch Fix with Trunk Club. I ended up sending it all back (one of the perks of Trunk Club is that there’s no styling fee, even if it doesn’t work out). I loved the TOMS booties and almost splurged on them, but ultimately they were too expensive for me. I wasn’t done with Trunk Club yet, though.
What is Trunk Club, you ask?
Run over here to check out my first Trunk Club post, where I give a little breakdown. I’ll wait. Got it? Okay, let’s continue.
After your first Trunk, Trunk Club stylists will review your feedback and check with you to see if you’d like another Trunk. This second Trunk arrives pretty soon after your first. For my second Trunk, I requested dresses and tops from my stylist, Casey. The pre-Trunk preview was pretty spot on, and I only removed two items from the Trunk before it shipped. Because I requested tops and dresses, Casey didn’t organize my pieces into outfits. I was still super excited to see that my Trunk had shipped!
Let’s get started!
Halogen Ponte Dress in Green ($98)
Pulling this dress out of the box, I LOVED the emerald green color and the exposed zipper on the back. The material is a little thicker and the dress is fully lined. Unfortunately, it was a little on the tight side, and realistically I’m not sure if I’d get many opportunities to wear it (darn you, casual office attire!). Verdict: Returned
Charles Henry Shift Dress in Black ($88)
After seeing my Trunk preview, I was excited about this black dress. Putting it on, I quickly realized it was a little too big. It’s a very lightweight, breathable dress that would be so easy to dress up or down, but it just didn’t do anything for me.
Adelyn Rae Sleeveless Fit & Flare Dress in Pink ($80)
This seems like such a great party dress. Although I don’t have many occasions to wear this Barbie-esque piece, I was a little disappointed that it was too loose for me. I really liked the pop of color, and of course the exposed zipper on the back. Verdict: Returned
Eliza J Stripe Knit Flared Dress ($80)
The material of this dress was super soft, stretchy and comfortable. I didn’t really have a strong feeling against or for this dress, but it was a fun piece to try. Verdict: Returned
Lilly Pulitzer “Alessia” Print Pima Cotton T-Shirtdress ($98)
This was one of the items that Casey put in as a replacement, and I was surprised to pull out something Lilly Pulitzer. I had tried on the navy version of this dress in a local store, and it’s super comfortable. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I can’t get the pajama vibe I get from this pattern & cut combination! Verdict: Returned
This Halogen piece was one of the items from my preview that I was most excited about receiving. I’m trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe (sorry, neutrals), and I think this color is a perfect segue (<-am I the only one who thought that word was supposed to be segway?!) for me. Looking back at this image, I will probably not pair the dress with these brown booties, but it’s definitely a keeper! Verdict: Kept
NYDJ “Ami” Stretch Skinny Jeans ($134) • Caslon Mix Stripe Long Sleeve Tee ($23)
Although these jeans were very soft and comfy, they did not fit as well as they might appear in these pictures. They are a little more high-waisted than I’m used to wearing, and overall they’re too loose. For the price point, I would want them to fit perfectly. Casey tried very hard though – last time, the pants options were both too tight! As for the top, I really like the combination of two different sizes of stripes. I’m really into stripes lately. And for that price?! I’ll take it! Verdict: Returned jeans, Kept shirt
Free People “Gemma” Back Wrap Tee ($68) • NYDJ “Ami” Stretch Skinny Jeans ($134)
I really liked this comfy, casual piece, but I wasn’t crazy about the price tag for such a simple piece (although I understood once I realized it was made by Free People). Because of its flowy-ness and open back, it would be a great summer top or top to throw on over a swimsuit. Verdict: Returned
Trouve Colorblock Zip Tank in Red ($68) • NYDJ “Ami” Stretch Skinny Jeans ($134) • Coconuts by Matisse “Lambert” Fringe Bootie in Black ($89.95)
I don’t usually go for such a bold, in-your-face color, but I actually really like this shirt. The zipper is movable – and you can pull it to any level. It’s a very lightweight material, but still not see through! It also has a slight high-low effect going on. Verdict: Returned
Coconuts by Matisse “Lambert” Fringe Bootie in Black ($89.95)
I struggled with these booties. They were also one of my most anticipated items after seeing my preview… I even had a dream about them before receiving my box. Once I got them, however, the deep V-cut on the front just threw me off. What do I wear with them?! It didn’t help that most of my friends and family don’t care for them, either. Verdict: Returned
Halogen Scoop Neck Woven Tank ($39) • NYDJ “Ami” Stretch Skinny Jeans ($134)
Just in case you were wondering, it is not ideal weather to be taking outdoor pictures in sleeveless clothing! Running back and forth to the warmth inside helped, though. I liked this top, but it wasn’t anything super special that I just had to have. In the preview, the print actually looked like lips – in reality they are red feathers! Verdict: Returned
Pleione High/Low V-Neck Blouse in Black ($68) • NYDJ “Ami” Stretch Skinny Jeans ($134) • Coconuts by Matisse “Lambert” Fringe Bootie in Black ($89.95)
I’m drawn to effortless, classic pieces like this top. It fit perfectly, and it so easy to style! The material is super lightweight but not enough to be sheer. You can’t go wrong with black! Verdict: Kept
Splendid Thermal Cold Shoulder Tee ($98) • NYDJ “Ami” Stretch Skinny Jeans ($134)
I keep noting the pieces that I was most excited about after viewing the preview… Hands down, this was my most favorite item. It’s completely out of my comfort zone, but at the same time, it’s kind reminiscent of my dream wardrobe. I love the thermal material, the color, and its uniqueness with the shoulder cut-outs. When I pulled it out of my box, David laughed and said, “Oh I can make you one of those. I just need some scissors…” Regardless, the tags came off this piece pretty fast, and I wore it that same night! It’s definitely a splurge, but I know I’ll get some great use out of it. Verdict: Kept
Overall, Casey did a fantastic job with this Trunk. I really liked my first Trunk, but this one had pieces I loved. After my reading about the KonMari Method and applying it to my wardrobe, I was ready to begin purchasing only the pieces that sparked joy.
