Stitch Fix #8: Transitioning to Spring

Spring is finally here – at least in Tennessee! I was excited to see some spring pieces in this Fix. If you saw my post about my last Fix, you know that I asked my husband to request my items. He did super, and my stylist, Sara, knocked it out of the park! Because he did such a great job, I had him write my pre-Fix note again this time. Again, both he and Sara did great, but I think I will take over the note-writing in the future. I’m starting to miss it!

If you don’t already know, Stitch Fix is a personalized shopping experience where a stylist hand-selects 5 items to send to your doorstep (and they now have SHOES!). These items are selected based on the style profile you provide, which goes over your sizes, preferences, style, and requests. You also have a 500 character pre-Fix note that you can write to specify types of clothes you’re looking for, or to let your stylist know about upcoming events. You’re charged a $20 styling fee that is applied to your final purchase. Once you receive your Fix, you have 3 days to try everything on in the comfort of your home! You choose what to keep and send the rest back in a pre-labeled shipping bag provided by Stitch Fix. For a more detailed breakdown, check out this post. If you’re already using (or are interested in) Trunk Club, check out this post comparing the two services.

For this Fix, my husband David requested more pieces to get me out of my “comfort zone,” tank tops, and shorts. Even though I didn’t get any shoes this Fix, Sara did a great job with David’s requests!

Pulling this top out of the box, I immediately realized that something was wrong with it. Unfortunately, one of the straps was sewed incorrectly, making it twisted when you put it on (as shown in the third picture). I notified customer service, and they graciously offered to look for a replacement if I decided to keep the top. While the color is great and I love the airiness and comfort of the top, I decided it wasn’t a must-have. Verdict: RETURN

I’ve seen other women receive this top, and I can testify that it is absolutely gorgeous. The deep color is beautiful, and the lace detail is exquisite. It’s definitely an extremely delicate top. That being said, I’m torn because I’m not sure if I’d have enough opportunities to get to wear it. I did find that it is very versatile, however! Verdict: UNDECIDED

The vivid colors on this skirt are great, but I’m not sure about wearing such an intense floral. I’m also not reaching for my pencil skirts as much as I would like, so I’m hesitant to add another one to the mix. This is a beautiful (and super comfy!) piece, but just not for me. Verdict: RETURN

Collective Concepts Levett Crossover Blouse ($54)

I love this top! It’s a silky material, and the cut is very flattering. I do already own a lot of black pieces, but you can’t have too much black, right? Its versatility makes it even more of a keeper! Verdict: KEEP

Level 99 Cindie Linen Printed Short ($78)

The one thing holding me back from these shorts is the price tag. I’ve been using prints as neutrals more and more lately (like my leopard flats from Target), so the print doesn’t really scare me. Like everything else Stitch Fix provides, the fabric is so comfy. I love the length, because at 5’9 I hate worrying if my shorts are too short. The only thing that makes me hesitant is the price! Verdict: UNDECIDED

I love the blue top! Keep!

  • I think the blue top looks great on you! I also like the black top and the floral skirt but I totally understand not wanting to add another pencil skirt if you’re not wearing them too much.

    • Thank you, Sarena! I ended up keeping the Brixon Ivy blue top and the black Crossover tank top 🙂

  • Vicki Kechekian

If you like this color of blue, you might like the one I posted for sale, a keeper from a previous Stitch Fix. It’s silk, Daniel Rainn, and quite versatile in style. Just not my color. This is one of the aspects of SF I’m learning from. I might like a lot of what I receive, but I think I need to be excited about having it,wearing it, with certainty. To avoid cluttering up my KonMari’d closet, that’s going to require discrimination on my part.

    • That’s a beautiful top, Vicki! I actually did end up keeping the Brixon Ivy shirt, or else I would have taken you up on that offer! I really like the Daniel Rainn brand – and I’ve found a lot of it at TJ Maxx for great prices.

I definitely agree with you about being more selective and picky about choosing clothes, especially with Stitch Fix. With this Fix, for example, I “liked” everything, but ended up keeping only 2 things because I “loved” them. I’ve had a few purchases that I have second guessed myself about even after doing the Kon Mari Method with my wardrobe, but it’s a learning experience! I think/hope I’m getting better at it 🙂

  • Oo Em Gee! Loving that blue top! That is a pin to my board top. Also liked the one that was twisted for casual days. What a shame it came in imperfect.

    • I really liked the twisted top too, but ultimately decided against it because I kept having to readjust where the tanks were lying on me. Customer service did offer to find a replacement if I decided to keep it, but yes it was a little disappointing to have it sewed backwards!

  • I love the printed shorts! I got the same shorts in a bright solid color – I think I’m going to request these, too. I received the blue top in a previous fix. I didn’t keep it because the fit wasn’t quite right. I agree with you – it is a lovely top! 🙂

    • The shorts are so so comfortable! If they had been in a solid color, I might have kept them because they’d be a little more versatile. Thanks for reading!

  • Love those shorts but I agree, that price is somewhat ridiculous!

    • Ridiculous but so comfy 🙂 Maybe I’ll receive some lower priced shorts in a future Fix.

  • Paula@SweetPea

You look adorable in all of these outfits. I pinned the floral skirt with the blue top. That’s such a pretty combination.

    • Thank you, Paula! I did like the outfit, but ended up not keeping the skirt because I’m already struggling to reach for the pencil skirts I do have. Thank you for stopping by!

  • Theboxqueen

I always enjoy finding other SF reviewers that love SF as much as I do. Thanks for stopping by TheBoxqueen the other day, happy to have found your lovely blog. <3 You got some really cute pieces and I love the black top you kept. What did you end up doing with the blue embroidered top? It is such a pretty piece and looks beautiful on you! XOXO, Elif

    • Thank you for reading, Elif! I have paired the blue embroidered top with the black pants I received in a previous Fix as well as some white jeans from JCrew. Thank you for your kind words!
